Gaming Addiction

A lot of people enjoy playing video games daily. Most of those people fall in the younger age category such as children and teenagers. This entertainment can be fun when taken in large doses, the video games began to take over and disrupt someone’s life. So how would you be able to identify gaming addiction?

                Firstly, pay attention to the person’s mood when not playing games. Are they more irritable or depressed?  Are they fidgety or always anxious? These could be signs of a gaming addiction.

                Secondly, observe their videogame usage. Do the lie about playing games or are cooped up in their room hunched over their controller. They may also have to play video games longer than before to satisfy their urges to play.

                Watch for a decline in quality of performance at work or school. Falling asleep at work or school, missing deadlines, skipping work are signs that you should be concerned about. Watch out also for declining grades and do have a talk with their school teacher to know the progression of your child at school.

                Look out for a decline in other every day activities. You have to observe if the person’s personal hygiene has worsened or they are more frequently skipping meals.

                Check is the person shows a lack of interest in activities that they used to love. Do they show a lack of interest in their sports team or sports that they usually play. Notice if the person chooses video game time over family and friends. Quitting social clubs or sports activities can also be a sign of gaming addiction.

                Lastly note if there are any medical symptoms related to gaming addiction. Medical symptoms could be carpal tunnel syndrome, back or neck aches, headaches and dry eyes can all indicate a gaming addiction.

                In conclusion, do not be afraid to seek professional help if you find that your gaming addiction is becoming too much for you. Do it now before the problem worsens.
